Super Angie...Beluga encounter

For Brennan's 8th birthday present, he wanted to go pet a Beluga Whale. So this past Friday, we made that happen.

We went to the Beluga Encounter at the Vancouver, BC aquarium.

It was such a special experience to share with my big bear.

First we went to an education class where we learned all about whales. We got to examine a skull and do some fun experiments about echolocation.

Then we got to go to the kitchen and pick up the fish for our whale. We got to meet Aurora. She is not the oldest whale but she is a mom. In the kitchen area, we also were able to see the different schedules and lists of toys for all the different animals.

Then it was time to go out and meet Aurora. Brennan was very excited because she is his favorite whale. He even got to carry the food for her.

We had our life jackets on and entered the tank area.

We learned hand controls for having her make different sounds and do different things. she waved to us with her fin and tail. She opened her mouth so we could see her teeth and tongue. We got to feed her too. We touched her melon (the top of her head) and she moved it around for us. So cute. We also got to touch her side and her tail. She spun around for us as well.

This was the most amazing experience. I love sharing it with my sweet Brennan.

Super Angie...what no one talks about

I had a miscarriage yesterday morning. I quickly found that the topic is taboo and people sadly, don't discuss what really happens. How does a woman feel?

So I decided NOT to be quiet about it.

Your body is in pregnancy mode. No matter how early in the pregnancy you are, you are producing hormones and changes are happening. When you lose the baby, you have to then lose all those hormones. Your body has to dump them and return to "normal". Makes sense, right? Depending on how far along you were and your personal chemistry, this can take 48 hours or longer. I've talked to a friend who said it took her a month to feel normal again.

Your body has to go into a labor of sorts to get the baby out. No matter the size (or how many weeks you are) this is a lot for your body to go through. Think about childbirth... this is the same thing, but smaller. I experienced cramping the night before. Lots of cramps. Body aches. During the night I had back labor. You have to dilate as well. For me, the actual act of having the baby come out (in the toilet) wasn't painful. But I suppose it could be for others.

Because your body goes through so much during this process, you will feel exhausted. Even if mentally you are "okay" with the loss and are prepared to move forward, your body isn't. Your body just did A LOT. Producing hormones, making mini contractions...everything it has to do to get the baby out. For me, I have experienced headaches, back aches, shoulder tightness, cramps, and lots of moodyness.

And that brings us to the hormone dump. Don't be discouraged if you are HOT and then COLD and then angry about the house being a mess. Its NORMAL. And the quicker you realize this, the better off you will be. Stay in bed. Sleep. Eat. Talk to friends and family. Hug your other kids.

Dos and Don'ts:

Do accept help from others
Don't run up and down the stairs in your house
Do drink a lot of water
Don't drink alcohol
Do take a hot bath
Don't have sex (your body needs to return to normal down there--also don't use tampons )
Do eat protein
Don't worry about your messy/dirty house
Do make yourself comfortable-- get dressed if you want, do your make up, do your hair, or don't! whatever makes you most comfortable. Usually I am always dressed up and have makeup on. But not now. I'm in my jammies with total bed head (hence, no current picture on this blog)
Don't stress about your body imagine. If you start thinking right now about fitting into your skinny jeans, you'll just freak yourself out. Be NICE to your body and realistic.
Do use heating pads and ice packs.
Don't be afraid in silence. If you are scared, TALK ABOUT IT. Look up stuff on the net. Call your doctor. Call your midwife. Talk to your spouse. Say a prayer. ITS OKAY TO BE SCARED!
Do a bit of lite exercise if you feel its okay. A gentle walk or a light ride on your stationary bike can help circulate blood. Obviously this is not the time to resume training for the Ironman you are working on, but exercise is good for your soul. (talk to your doctor if you are concerned)
Don't worry if you are freaking out, crying, feeling hot, shivering. Remember, hormone dump sucks AND its totally normal to go through everything.

DO REMEMBER YOU ARE STRONGER THEN YOU THINK YOU ARE!

Take time to heal: heart, mind, soul. Be kind to yourself. You have been through a big thing. Treat it as such. Talk openly. Pray, Meditate, listen to music. Watch TV or movies. Smile. Laugh. and remember...we are all super!

I had a miscarriage this morning.

I'm doing all right. Very very tired and sore. Had no idea how physically hard it is on your body. I was only a few weeks pregnant and although I really wanted to be pregnant and was very excited, I'm emotionally doing alright.

New goals. New paths. New plans. God is in charge.

Super Angie...Valentines + late birthday party

Since November was crazy, we decided to have Tanith's birthday party this week. A late birthday mixed with fun Valentines stuff. We invited one neighbor and then all the girls from her preschool. There was sadly, one little girl who got physical with Tanith and then yelled at me when he mom came to pick her up. Other then that, the kids were great and I think Tan really loved it.

I was surprised at some of the gifts. She got a lot of makeup. I think makeup for a 5 yr old is too much. Needless to say, we put it away and told her she might be able to wear some for a skating show. I'm sure I'm just old fashioned and a lot of people reading this blog are probably shaking their heads, but I really do think parents are letting their little kids, girls especially, grow up way too fast.

I don't pretend to be the perfect mom. I'm not gonna do the big elaborate birthday party. I believe that if you do that for a 5 yr old, what are they gonna expect when they are 10? We do a big special party for 8, because that is when they get baptized. Tanith was thrilled to just have some friends over, do some crafts and coloring and eat cupcakes. Nothing fancy. And the other kids seemed to love it as well.

Super Angie...aquarium business

Last night, Dallin and Rick went on the Boy Scout KLONDIKE winter camp out. So it was play time for Tanith, Brennan and I. Brennan had gone on a field trip in the morning to the aquarium and wanted to show us everything he learned. So that's what we did.

We used to go to the aquarium in Sandy often, but its been a few years. The kids were particularly excited because next weekend, we will be in Vancouver, BC Canada to have a Beluga Whale encounter at the Vancouver Aquarium.

Highlights: Penguins, River Otters, Salmon, Electric Eel, Archer Fish, Sting rays, star fish and the piranhas.

Afterwards, we went out to dinner at Sweet Tomatoes.

It was a really fun evening with my two youngest. Brennan was such a loving big brother, always helping Tan. He lifted her up to see things, read signs to her and helped her. He also read a lot to me too. And we had some good conversations in the car as well. Love those kids!

I have gotten behind in blogging--mainly because I'm hating uploading all these pics from my recent trip to Germany. I may postpone posting more so I can catch up on life.

IN THE MEANTIME:
Goals for 2012~!

Continuing my weight loss, toning up, getting better in shape
Reading the scriptures each morning with the kids
Making more real meals for our family
Landing an axel (which I just accomplished!)
Getting more organized in the house.

So far so good.

I have lost a few months (3 to be exact). I've upped my intensity at the rink to make my skating stronger. I'm working again with my marvelous coaches and growing a lot. My stamina is getting back on track. Its hard to get back into the competitive mood but I have a comp soon. UTAH WINTER GAMES- Feb 2-4th.

So far we have been reading scriptures each school day morning. I have a hard time on the weekends because our schedule is so different. But I feel good about our weekday mornings. Its a start!

Making more meals. I have done better about thinking about meal time in advance. Yes, we still have those random meals of cheese and crackers and fruit, But we also have had baked chicken, cassaroles, soups. I'm not into making homemade, from scratch yet, but I'm making baby steps. And its ME making the meals, not Rick, so this is another positive move.

Landing an Axel. I did it! I am landing axels. Most are from stand stills but I have done some moving. My coach is thrilled. My next goal is the have an axel in my Skate for Hope program. I also think maybe I want to try to have one in my Valentine's show program. Hmmm...... :)

Getting Organized. YEA! I am totally doing this. I have made specific goals for January so as to not get over whelmed. I got my computer desk organized, bought another book shelf (and built it) and got the toys organized. For the rest of January I want to get my shelf in the guest room organized- which includes old desk stuff, bills etc. I will tackle that this week.

Its not a lot, but its me and I'm very happy with the progress I'm making.

My coach in Vegas, Kellyn, has started her own custom skating dress company. She also stones dresses. I was asked to do a photo shoot recently and here are some of the pictures.

I love working with Kellyn on dresses because she really listens.

She is a professional show skater. He has traveled the world skating and has been quite a few Skating with the Stars TV shows. Kellyn KNOWS fashion. She also does a beautiful job stoning dresses.

Super Angie.. German thoughts

My trip to Germany was incredible. I loved stepping back and enjoying my dad enjoy reliving his childhood. It was an awakening of sorts for me. To set aside my selfish nature and instead, let him decide everything. Of course I did drag him into a few stores and make him watch me try on clothes. hee hee But I really did just enjoy being with him.

Top thoughts:
Food. Need I say more?
Walking. I loved walking everywhere.
Trains. It was a new experience to take the train everywhere for 10 straight days.
Architecture. I had several friends comment that they wish they could someday go to Germany. And so this was on my mind a lot as I took pictures--trying to capture the spirit of the things I was experiencing. The buildings. The signs. The people. Life

Super Angie... USFS Pacific Coast Sectionals- Day 2

On Friday, Dallin and I went to Pacific Coast Sectionals. We really enjoyed all the programs, but especially Sr. Ice Dance. its not often that you get to see this caliber of ice dancing, in person!

Yes, we ate at the rink. I honestly don't remember the last time I had a hot dog.
THROW DALLIN THROW! Almost every skater had to be told over the Mic that we had thrown something on the ice. Hardly anyone noticed we had thrown stuff.
During ice cuts, the DS came in handy.
The bear and football we threw on the ice for Emily Samuelson and Todd Gilles.
Some of our other "tossies". We had to package everything in ziplock baggies- we had some candy and some little stuffed animals.

I took Dallin out of school on Friday to attend the comp with me. Again, a nice Mommy/Son day and I think Dallin really enjoyed it. I found him this cool hat (which he needed for his upcoming Christmas program). He enjoyed throwing "tossies" on the ice--infact we went to Smiths before hand and bought a TON of little stuffed animals for $2 each. Nice! Like his brother, he packed his backpack full of snacks, his DS and a book We met a lot of skaters- most of whom I don't know their names- so if you are reading this and know who some of these skaters are, please let me know!
I really enjoyed spending the day with him. :)

On Thursday, I took Brennan out of school to attend Sectionals in Salt Lake. Its not often that a big skating comp comes to town and it was so cheap to go watch. Brennan packed his backpack full of snacks and his DS, which he played during Zamboni time and during some of the upper level skaters. He really loved watching the young pairs and ice dance teams. It was fun to have a Mommy/ Brennan day!

We spent Thanksgiving morning putting up our Christmas trees. Last year at Target, I found the white and pink ones. This totally went against all things Angie, but I bought them and have grown quite fond of having non-traditional trees. The kids LOVE them. Tanith decorated the pink one and Brennan did the white one. We bought a few new ornaments at Target on Wednesday and then let the kids just pick out whatever they liked. Some are handmade-- like a heart or star paper that the kids painted last year. Others are traditional bulbs. Last year at Jenni's Christmas cookie day, Tanith made a picture frame ornament. Its really fun having a tree in Utah and these three smaller trees out in Keystone. Each tree is very "home made" and personal--not a designer tree at all, and I'm quite happy about that. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my friends who have beautiful, magazine perfect trees, but I grew up having very personal tree- with home made memories, so I enjoy that same type of tree.

Super Angie...Lake Dillon ice

After Thanksgiving dinner, we walked to Keystone lake to feed the ducks, but there weren't any. Rick remembered seeing some at Dillon lake, so we walked back home, jumped in the car and drove to the lake. We did find some geese but they were out swimming and no where near shore. We did find something better though...ice. Lake Dillon freezes completely in the winter, but it hasn't been cold enough, so only a part of it is frozen. This didn't stop the kids from have a blast. They are such natural little skaters. Fun times!

We took a family walk/hike this morning to go to Lucy's grave, take some family pictures and over all, enjoy being together. The weather was perfect and the temps were pleasant. We ate some snow (it was white, not brown or yellow!), walked on dead trees and threw a few snowballs.

Today, I took my United States Figure Skating test for Adult Bronze level. Moves in the Field and Freeskate. I was wicked nervous, and then suddenly, very calm. I actually enjoyed testing. The judges were really warm and friendly. The arena was silent and very serene. I am so proud of myself. Here is my freeskate (we didn't film the MIF).

Rick helped the kids set up the tent and they camped out in our living room. So much fun. They used glow sticks from pop, slept in sleeping bags, and stayed up way too later laughing, wrestling and playing games.

Super Angie...Super Weekend!

So, I went to Colorado this weekend for a few reasons: A: to get stuff we had forgotten from the condo-- coats, dishes, contacts etc. B: to get my skates sharpened in Colorado Springs, and C: to make a surprise visit to my friend Jenny. Her daughter, Eliza and I planned it via texts and we totally pulled it off.

While in town, I also saw my trusted Chiropractor and went over my knee problems. It was again suggested to me that I should think about getting new boots. Perhaps these stiff boots that are really advanced, are too much for my body to handle and thus, hurting my knee. I talked for a long time to Dr. Jon about this, then on the drive to Co Springs, I chatted with Rick. We decided this made sense, so when I got to the Springs, instead of getting my skates sharpened, I bought new boots. They are Rissport Dance boots, so they are cut down more. They are softer, easier to bend, and since I am only doing singles right now, these will be supportive enough.

After buying the new boots and ordering the new blades, I went to the Carr's house to surprise Jenny. Eliza told Jenny she was going to go get the mail, and then in she walked with a "special delivery"--ME! bawahaha! It was so fun!!!

Super Angie... Rick's first marathon

I am so proud of my husband. After only 6 months of running, Rick did his first marathon. AND because we are talking about Rick, he chose a hardcore trail run in Aspen, CO. The Aspen Backcountry Marathon. This is not for sissies. This has a total of 5,000 ft in elevation gain. They climbed 3 different mountains, topping out at an altitude of over 10,000 ft! He finished in just over 7 hours, which was his goal.

They left at 6am, in the dark. It was fun cheering him on at the start and the finish. He did have one big tumble on a down hill slope--which is why he is so dirty. But he wasn't injured and able to continue on.

I'm so thrilled that Rick pushed himself and accomplished such a feat. I love you baby!

Each time we go to Aspen, we always stay at these cabins. #27 was our honey moon cabin. This time we stayed in #24 which had an upstairs and a mainfloor. It was cute. We just love our little Aspen getaway and I can't imagine staying anywhere else there.

Gosh, I have been slacking at my blog.

Headlines:

I'm back on the ice. Skating with my former coach, Brianna Hatch. She is a gem and so enthusiastic. She believes in my skating and is just a cutie. She was a member of the US Junior international team and trained in Co Springs. She has a lot of experience and knows a lot of my favorite elite skaters--so often she'll say, "Let me teach you the warmup Rachael Flatt does" etc. It just makes skating fun.

School: The boys are in school at Quail Run and loving it. Dallin is enjoying playing the trombone and they both LOVE riding the bus. Dallin does an after school class each Thursday for the school News paper. So far he likes it.

Knee: I saw Dr. Heiden (yes Eric Heiden-- 5 time Olympic gold medalist for speed skating). He says I have some derangement of my knee. And a possible tear in the Meniscus. I had xrays and an MRI done. He wants me to continue to skate and do PT at the same time. Last week I skated
3 days feel pretty good. I am being dilligant in my PT at home and trying to stretch more and more. Dr Heiden mentioned it could be arthritis..which would suck. But I'm NOT gonna let this stop me. Mind over Matter.

Marathon: Rick ran his first marathon last weekend. I need to post pics. He did AWESOME. it was the Aspen Backcountry Marathon. HARD CORE! His starting elevation was 7,000 and he topped out at 10,000 ft. This aint for sissies. I'm so proud of him. He is a great trail runner.

Pair skating: Tanith and Brennan started working with their new coach- Cosette. Unfortunately, their first lesson DID NOT end well...Tanith cut her coach pretty bad--bad enough that she had to have 16 stitches. :( BUT...they did really enjoy their lesson.

Cleaning: Rick has been so busy around the house. He has shampooed most of the carpet. We have cleared out furniture and bought new. The house feels less cluttered...probably because most of our stuff is in the garage in boxes. Ugh... when the weather cools down, I will start going through those...but most stuff I'm just gonna give away.

Bellatina's: Tanith won a FB contest was honored to be one of the models for BELLATINA's. We had such a great time at the photoshoot. I saw a few pics and can't wait to see more. Stunning. I want to buy a lot of the cute headbands etc. The photo shoot was in an apple orchard. It was so much fun.

Gymnastics: Tan started gymnastics again at All American Gymnastics in Lindon. We love being back and being in Miss Nola's class. WE LOVE NOLA!

Playing: the kids are really enjoying being back in a neighborhood with friends. They play CHASE a lot. Tanith loves having her best friend Molly next door. Often the two girls will insist on dressing the same or having their hair the same. So cute.

Bikes: Yesterday, Tanith and Brennan both got new bikes. They were very very excited.

Soccer: Rick is excited. He scored an opportunity to take Dallin a special REAL SALT LAKE soccer practice for the team and kids. So, we bought Dallin a ball, shorts, shin guards and shoes. He is getting more and more excited. I believe this will happen on September 14th.

Life: life is going great. It is wonderful to be back as a family unit. With all the cleaning, I am feeling healthier day by day. I am finding beauty everywhere and learning not to let cliques and attitudes get to me. I'm happy and content and I have learned...I really am happier when I am just with my skating friends and my family. I don't need to be social.

While I went out of town for Rick's first marathon, my dad came into town for Vera's wedding. We actually saw each other at the airport before i flew off, which made it nice and easy for him to use my car all weekend, instead of having to rent one. And then we saw him for a few hours at the end of the trip.

I have been feeling more and more like my string of bad luck would never end. There is always going to be something that doesn't go like you want it to. For me...my mom died. I gained weight. Marriage probs. Housing probs. Job probs. Skating probs. Injuries. Allergies.... just seems like failure after failure--even if I'm not directly responsible for those failures, I still felt them and they effected me.

Deep breath.

Falling down is okay. Its the laying there that's is wrong.

Super Angie...first day of school

Monday was the first day of school for Dallin and Brennan. They were excited to start 5th and 2nd grade at Quail Run. :)

Of course we started the day with their Erste Schultag Tuttes. We gave one to Tan as well, even though her school doesn't start for another few weeks.

This year they got some school supplies, magazines, sketch books, stickers and so much more. They loved it! :)

Well looky here. Dallin decided to join Band this year and picked the trombone. He had all sorts of options and finally decided on the 'bone". I must admit...pretty excited, considering I played it too!

Back to School night was awesome. We REALLY love the new school and are so thankful they were accepted. Rick and I took turns taking the kids to different rooms etc. Dallin got his locker assignment and was soooo excited. Brennan met his teacher, Miss Baker. Dallin met his teacher, Mr. Hatch. Both were awesome and we are so excited for them. This school is like H.S. or Jr High were for me--the kids have their teacher, but they move around to different classrooms for all their subjects...so we went and moved around too and met some of them. It was fun. Rick looked at the lists of after school Enrichment classes and signed Dallin up for School Newspaper. Dallin was very excited about this.

Both boys went to bed saying, "I wish tomorrow was Monday! I can't wait for school!"

Everything is falling into place and I can feel God blessing us.

Well, we are here in Utah now. Allergies are insane, but I'm trying my best to ignore them. Sometimes it works, sometimes I just go insane. Asthma was really awful yesterday. Looking forward to fall.

Today the boys have testing at their new school. Yesterday we went school shopping. A few more things we need to get. We also got A LOT of cleaning done in the house. Its beginning to take shape although we still don't a kitchen table (its in Colorado) or a couch. Makes the house feel HUGE.

Its delightful to hear my children outside, playing freeze tag and laughing on the trampoline. I know I made the right choice to move home.

My friend Jen came over yesterday and helped me with some unpacking. We made a huge dent in things, have many many garbage bags waiting to go out (ordered another can--hopefully it shows up soon!) and many many bags to go to D.I. Getting things organized...still have a long ways to, but feeling good.

Rick has gone NUTS. He shampooed our bed room last night. He is working hard on getting our house sterile for me. This town is just bad for allergies.

Over all, today, I'm feeling hopeful and good.

Super Angie...beach combing

Having grown up in Seattle, I am quite used to walking along the beach. The smell from the Ocean or Puget Sound. The different shells and sea kelp you always find. Its still exciting for me, but I'm used to it.

It was fun being with my dad, watching him enjoy the kids.

Dallin was busy, running here and there. I'm surprised I got a pic of him standing still!

We enjoyed the HUGE birds we saw, and the tanker boats in the Vancouver Harbor.

I was very happy that I could see my kids loving the beach.

My kids on the other hand don't get this opportunity and they relished it! Crabs, muscles, and all sorts of goodies were collected and treasured. It was a perfect overcast day on the beach in Vancouver!

I July, while visiting my dad in Seattle, we took a two day trip to Vancouver, BC Canada. I have such fond memories of going to BC when I was growing up and I just knew my kids would enjoy it.

at times i have felt like i was drowning, or just stuck treading water. Finally the sun came out and I was blessed from Heaven.

Because Rick lost his job in Vegas, we can't move there. Because we want to be together as a family, we are moving back to Utah--where house and job are secure. The boys were accepted to Quail Run which we are very excited about. This is very comforting.

Things I have learned in the past week:
Be Still
Listen
Simplify life
Count your blessings.
Be Grateful
Bloom where you are planted.
Have Faith.

I'm a bundle of emotions about moving back to Utah. I will miss my Mountain Home. I love living in a small town and am scared to move back to sprawling suburbs. But I'm happy we can be together. I'm happy we have a home in a neighborhood with lots of friends for my kids, especially Dallin. I'm looking forward to climbing again, working out in our fitness room, going to our ward there. I'm happy the kids can do cub scouts.

I'm trying hard to NOT run faster then I have strength. One step at a time. One box at a time. One thing at a time.

Vitality on Ice was such a fun show. Having John Stewart, Uschi Kezler and Shae-Lynn Bourne there was an honor.

I debuted my new artistic program, WONDERFUL by Lady Gaga, with my new pink dress. I watered the program down (since I have been off the ice for 6 weeks due to my knee injury) but skated it cleanly non-the-less.

I am super pumped...learned SOOOO much about using my edges and different ways to hydroblade. I worked a lot with John a lot and feel like I am on the right path.

Super Angie... Tanith and Tanith Belbin

Yesterday, we went to Colorado Springs to get my skates sharpened. Jack is the best and so the 2 hour drive is well worth it. Plus the kids enjoy seeing wildlife along the drive-- on this trip: a pronghorn and a coyote. While we waited for my skates, Brennan and I enjoyed watched Max Aaron and Rachael Flatt practice. That session was incredible...so many triples.

Anyway, while paying for my sharpening, I said something to the kids like "Brennan, leave Tanith alone". Jack said, "What is her name" Me- "Um...Tanith, like Tanith Belbin. I have loved that name since I saw Tanith and Ben in 2000. Beautiful!" Jack - "Well, you know she is here" Me- "SHE IS!???!!!" So he said he would go find her.

He looked and looked but couldn't find her. He checked the schedule and guessed that she would come to the next session to coach. So the kids and I sat outside (they were eating chocolate chip cookies and it was warm= chocolate all over Tanith's face and hair and shirt! So I took her to the bathroom and cleaned her up). Then we saw Max, so we chatted with him. The boys LOVE his skating and how nice and down to earth he is. Meanwhile, Jack had found Tanith Belbin, but couldn't find us. LOL We kept missing her. So I told the kids we should just sit outside the proshop and then.... she walked by. OH MY GOSH!Me- Hi Tanith. My name is Angie and I'd like to introduce you to my daughter, Tanith.

It was so adorable. Her face lit up. She mentioned that she would have to tell her parents. I told her how much Rick and I love their skating and how I had wanted to see her in 2001 at 4CC but that year they competed at Jr. Worlds instead. She was sooo sweet and wanted to know if the kids skate. Brennan did a waltz jump- Tanith said "Take that to the ice!" and he said, "I do!" lol Tanith did a Spiral for her.

Tan was so excited. She has seen Tanith a lot on TV and each time she always says, "Thats me when I'm bigger". She loved meeting Tanith Belbin and today was talking about it a lot. "There are two Taniths!"

Super Angie...Fireworks and Pioneers

Finding myself in Utah, Pioneer Day weekend, we bought the kids each a pack of fireworks from Walmart...$10 per pack. some of our neighbors had HUGE shows...almost professional looking. Gorgeous really.

The joy from my kids though is something I will never forget. The joy they had in doing a family fireworks show. It was windy and most of the fireworks tipped over, but everyone still cheered and clapped. Everyone congratulated each other on the pretty colors.

Took me back to the days I sat with my family, on our curb, doing our own home fireworks.. I'm so thankful I had this opportunity to celebrate my Pioneer heritage with my own family.

Today I'm thinking about my mom a lot. I love this picture of her. She is beautiful. This smile is so her. And she loved wearing fun cardigan sweaters, like this snow flake one. She always looked nice when she went out into public--never wearing sweats or jammie pants. She always did her makeup and hair. She loved jewelry and scarves too.

Since skating in SKATE FOR HOPE, I have felt myself healing from her death. In fact, somedays go by without me even thinking about her...which I know she is okay with. Other times, I still cry, but not like I did before the show. The show really healed me. Talking to all the stars backstage, sharing with them my story and her story...it all really helped. And I KNOW she was there watching and enjoying my big moment. She is so proud of me. I just wish I could still talk with her on the phone. I LOVED our daily phone conversations. I loved being able to call her and just tell her anything and everything. She was truly my best friend.

If she were alive right now, I'd be talking to her about the Tour de France. I know she would have been watching it with dad at home. I would tell her about how I just painted my toes. I'd tell her about church and how nice R.S. was today. I'd tell her about dinner I'm cooking and about the mountain Dallin climbed yesterday. I'd talk with her about little things that don't matter as well as huge life changing things.

I really miss her. I want to be more like her.

Super Angie...The Johnny Weir perspective

On Father's day, I had the chance to go to a Johnny Weir skating seminar in Columbus, Ohio at Chiller Easton.

It was an honor and a privileged to skate with him. He gave me a lot of one on one time-which my poor brain needed. One of my favorite exercises he taught us was doing a back spin, fast, slow, fast, jump into a loop, land and go directly into the backspin. Now everyone knows that my backspin has been my biggest problem. So I asked him about it and he told me "Pinkie Toe". I need to focus on that pinkie toe and my right abs. I tried it IT WORKED!!! I was so so excited. Thank you Johnny.

This seminar helped me realize that I need to focus this summer on edges, footwork, moves etc. It was so educational and amazing to skate with one of my all time favorites. I'm also really happy my dad was able to come to the seminar and watch.

Super Angie... Rick's 10K

Yesterday was Rick's 10K . I had so much fun going to cheer him on.

The kids and I made posters "GO DAD" and "Go 453!".

We drove to Officer's Gulch and held our posters. The kids quickly learned that if they hold their hands out, runners will give them HIGH FIVES. My voice got so sore from screaming for everyone. It was a really fun atmosphere and I hope he goes to more races so we can go scream.

It was so funny. At Officer's Gulch, Rick didn't see us until he passed us. We didn't know he had had put on the white t-shirt, so we were looking for someone in red. He doubled back and gave me a kiss.

After we saw him, we hopped in the car, and drove down to the exit in Frisco. There was a lady at that area with a cowbell, and a few other supporters. Ann saw us, which was fun and the kids got more high fives. After we saw Rick, we jumped in the car and took off to the finish line. We actually got there right when he did, so the kids ran with him to the finish line and I ran and took pics.

We hung out for about an hour or more in the grass. Food, music and prizes were great. While I don't think I'll be doing any races (my poor knees!) I do hope the kids get inspired and want to start running. It was really fun.

I'm allergic to Wheat. I should also avoid caramel, flour, barley and malt. I had no ideas that these things were related to my asthma as well.

Super Angie...Tons of Trucks Breckenridge 2011

What a great time we had in Breck yesterday at TONS OF TRUCKS.

The kids really had a great time meeting the different drivers and trying out different vehicles.

Dallin's favorite was Ambulance.

Tanith's favorite was the Firetruck.

Brennan's favorite was the crane.

There was a Forest Ranger jeep--we made sure to thank him for all the help in our area during the fire.

There was a party barge boat which of course a hit. I want one!!

Street snow blower machines, construction vehicles, a city bus, the parking meter car, tow truck, and even a Zamboni!

The weather was perfect and we just had a great time at TONS OF TRUCKS!

Super Angie...Keystone Gulch fire Day 2

We enjoyed a sunny day at the pool while the helicopter dropped water on the fire. We also took a few walks over to the fire zone and watched the hot shots do their job. It was very smokey in the morning and I actually thought we would leave town and go on a little trip. My asthma and allergies were really horrible. But we stuck around and had a lot of fun.

After school yesterday, we went to McDonalds to get milkshakes--last day of school celebration. On our way home, I noticed some smoke and as we got closer, we could see the flamesKeystone Gulch, right by our house was on fire.
As we got closer home, I called Rick who advised us to hurry and go pack.
You can see the roof of my house in front. The flames are very close.

When we got home, our property manager told us to evacuate. So we started packing. That was quite frantic. What things do you take when it really looks like your house will burn down? We grabbed a hand full of clothes, favorite toys and books, special artwork hanging on our fridge, scriptures, picture frames from the mantle, snacks, and of course, my ice skates and dress for Skate for Hope. The boys were very brave, taking all our bags and luggage down to the car by themselves, while I finished up in the house. Later our neighbor Nicole told me that Dallin kept repeating "I'm not scared" but she could tell he was. All three were crying. It was very very emotional and very scary. The smoke was now red. There was ash in the air and the whole building was full of smoke. It was REAL. We were being evacuated and who knew if we'd come home.

Once we left our house, we were not allowed back. Our street was closed. There were cops everywhere!

Once the sun went down, you could really see the flames. This is a tree that burst into flames. Amazing! So scary...this is just so close to our house. Finally at 9 pm, we were allowed to go home. Oh, that was such a relief. The kids were very very scared because you could still see a lot of fire on the hill side, so we drove to the firetrucks. The firecrew were incredible to the kids and really funny. "We are having so much fun!" they said. They were really fun to talk to and it really eased the kids. We knew the crews would be working all night to keep us safe. We went home.
Today we went on several walks over to the fire zone. It was really interesting to watch the crews.
But the highlight was the helicopter drop. So awesome!
