Super Angie...growing up

Our baby birds are growing up so fast! We really can't believe how much they change each day. We have LOVED learning about this part of nature. My brother said, "of course I have seen baby birds, but not in real life. This is amazing!". I agree. Its one thing to see them on a show or in a book, but in our very yard...amazing!

If anyone wants to come see them, please come. We just ask that you remind your kids to be reverent around them and if the mama bird is around, let her be.

We sure are gonna miss them when they grow old enough to fly away!

Super Angie...German clothes

On my first trip to Germany, when I was just 18, I bought my future daughter a German trachten dress. Throughout the years, my parents and I have bought my sons lederhosen. When Dallin was just barely 2, I had his picture taken in the lederhosen and got a gorgeous, personality filled picture that just had to be framed. Then Brennan was the same age, we did the picture again, this time also taking one with both boys. The results--so cute! So, even though Tanith is a bit older then her brothers were, it was time for the picture. And its a good thing I'm married to someone with his own photo studio! Rick set up studio in our front room and got these darling pictures on Sunday!

If I do say so myself, my kids are pretty dang cute and my husband is pretty dang talented. Thanks baby!

Super Angie..change of plans

I have decided to withdraw from the Teva Mountain Games in June. The injury to my toe is worse then I thought and I just think it would be more beneficial to my climbing and my body if I didn't focus on bouldering and instead spent 6 weeks just getting my endurance back and letting my toe heal.

Super Angie...its been a long time

Last night, we went climbing together as family. The kids all had to show off their newest skills and favorite routes to Rick. Then we put them in Mountain Room and we climbed. Jake and Julie arrived and some new friends, Stacey and Kevin (?). We had a blast. Rick climbed SO GOOD. I'm really impressed that his climbing has improved so much. I'm so glad he got those new shoes.

My climbing was a bit labored at time, but still felt good. I pushed myself on a few tens and got half way up an 11c. YEA! Its gonna be a fun project for sure. BUT While I was working this one spot (awful pocket and then a big reachy move), my toe slipped off a tiny cripper and slammed right into the wall. OUCH! I came down immediatly and took off my shoes. Of course my Magos always leave my toes in a perma-curled position for a bit, but this time it seemed worse. I continued to climb the rest the night, not thinking anything of it. We had a fabulous night and tons of fun. :)

We came home, put the kids to bed and thats when I realized I was limping and my toe was swollen and red. OH GREAT! Rick wrapped it in a salonpas (love those!) and I took some meds and went to bed. This morning its still swollen and a red. We don't think its broken because I don't scream and kick when Rick moves it around, but probably just a deep bruise. OUCH! It hurts so bad. This sucks because in 1 1/2 hours we have a babysitter coming so we could head to another gym this morning and do some training for my comp in Vail. What should I do?!

Super Angie..HES HOME!

RICK IS HOME!!!!

He left on Friday May 1st and hes now home on Friday May 15th. Do you know how many days that is? OMGosh!

Yea!

Rick is home.

He came off the plane with a full beard and almost no body fat (he has since shaved). Seeing how much fat he lost and how awesome he looks---I'm contemplating taking a 12 day expedition. Heck, 30 day expedition! LOL

But seriously, he looks fantastic and has already shown us all the pictures he took (he put them on my lap top and then hook it to the TV). This trip really looks like it was amazing. After arriving in Talkeetna and checking in with AMS (Alaska Mountain School) they boarded a tiny plane and then flew into Denali National Park and landed on a glacier in the middle of no where. I mean, they were REALLY out there. They only saw ravens, some type of little gray bird and a butterfly. So remote. Luckily, all the Grizzlies were still sleeping. The area was called Little Switzerland. Simply gorgeous!

They did extensive rescue training, ice, rock and mixed climbing, snow shoeing, and so much more. They were 100% incharge of themselves, meaning their guides or more properly, their instructors didn't make the food, break camp or anything that usually happens on guided expeditions. They dug down about 5 feet to make their cooking tent. They would then put a tent on top of the pit. They got creative and built shelves in the snow, chairs to sit on...looked awesome! Rick put his cooking skills to use and became the cook for the 3 guys (there were also 3 girls).

They moved camp three times and practiced extensive LEAVE NO TRACE, which includes throwing their "poop" bags in the crevices, which is the proper way to dispose according to the National Park. LOL Can you imagine? Rick was lowered several times into crevices to drop the outhouse bags down. Fun! LOL

I'm so proud of Rick for taking this trip and doing so awesome. He climbed 5.8 and 5.9s in mountaineering boots. He ice climbed on some overhanging stuff. He lead most of the crevise stuff. He also was put on an "advanced" team and did some amazing things on that. I'm just so overwhelmingly happy for him. He did AWESOME. I love you baby!

Super Angie...day 12...YEA!

I got a text and then a phone call from my sweetie. I was able to change his flight, so he will be arriving at 7:40am tomorrow (Friday!). YEA!!!!

We didn't get to talk long because he didn't take his charger, so his phone is almost dead. But I'm sooo excited.

The rest of Day 12 went great. My dad and brother took Brennan up to Timp caves. They all had a fabulous time. I took Tan to gymnastics and my mom came along. Tannie really LOVES gymastics.

This evening, Dallin had team practice, so that was fun. I'm so proud of Dallin tonight...he did his first 5.9! It was clean, and he did "take", but at least he made it to the top and completed all the moves.

We took Jeff and my parents with, so the kids could show them their moves. And then I got Jeff to climb. He LOVED it and did very good, especially considering his fear of heights. I had so much fun teaching my older brother. I also did a bit of bouldering and got some beta from Doug (spider pig) and was able to go one move further on my tricky V2. AND I got one move further on my V3 in the cave. YEA!! Way happy.

I can't wait for 7:40 to come around! :

Super Angie...more comp pics

My mom took some pictures at the comp on Tuesday. Heres some more pics. And as you can see, even Brennan and Tanith got some climbs in during the evening.

Super Angie...day 10 and 11 without Rick

TODAY IS DAY 12!! That means, his expedition is supposed to end today, but it depends on weather if they can make it out of Denali National Park. The webcam is looking favorable with no storms in site, so..who knows!

Day 10 and 11...
Life has been okay the past few days. We had Dallin's comp, which went great (and I have more pitures to post that my mom took!). I went to IKEA with my mom and Brennan and Tanith. We ate there (yummy salmon) and I bought two new bookshelves, whihc I built in record time and they just look fabulous--I'll take pictures later. I've done a lot of cleaning around the house and have seriously decluttered--thanks to my new book shelves. The kids have been playing well and mostly healthy--yesterday Dallin woke me up several times during the night complaining about his ear hurting. In the morning, I took him to the doctor. He has been SO healthy for sevearl years, that he honestly didn't know what he would do at a doctors--he had no memories of ever going to one! lol So, dealing all that yesterday morning was a bit mading, but as I dropped him off at school late, I got to see my sweet friend Julie and then his teacher gave me a brownie with chocolate frosting, and well....that always makes things better!

My dad and brother from Seattle arrived yesterday and we had fun together. It was fun showing him around the house. He has never been before. The kids had fun showing him all their stuff, books, photos, awards, and legos. Tanith sat with him and watched Strawberry Shortcake. We all went out for dinner to Olive Garden and then I came home and promptly did a work out--ate too many bread sticks! lol

I'm happy to report that my hard work while Rick has been gone has resorted in me loosing weight. I wonder how much he has lost....

Today is the first day I might hear from him. I'm anxious!

Super Angie...He got 3rd Place!!!

Tonight Dallin competed in his first rock climbing comp and he took 3rd place overall!!! He really rocked the house in bouldering.

His total score was 380 (they only count the top 3 highest scores). He had to do at least one top rope route, one bouldering route, and then he could do as many of either bouldering or top roping that he wanted. Of course, being the natural boulderer that he is, he did 6 bouldering problems and 1 top rope route. He attempted 4 total TP routes and 9 total bouldering problems. WAY TO GO DALLIN!

He got a lot of wonderful support from Annette, Zack and of course Nate. Zack always says "I wish I could be as strong as Dallin" and Nate is just full of genuine love and support for Dallin.

He listened very closely during the Rules meeting and then took off bouldering. He on-sited his first 4 routes!! Then he started working this crazy problem worth 200 points! It was so crazy, going up the aerate on the inverted bouldering wall. I shot some video of one of his attempts. He is so strong. I'm really proud of him. He never was able to send the problem, but thats okay--it will be a good project for him! He worked it HARD!!!

I think he did all but two bouldering routes. He worked hard on some TR routes. Some were really reachy for someone his size. Finally we found a route that was just right for his size and he easily sent it. He worked through his fear of heights and did it!

I cheered so loud when he got his ribbon and was announced as the 3rd place winner. :)

Afterwards, we went to The Purple Turtle and got shakes. They melted so fast and made a huge mess in the car, but we came home and enjoyed eating them. Yum!

I asked Dallin about this comp and this is what he told me: "I felt nice that I have some new projects to work. I feel good that I did the comp. And I am glad that I came in 3rd place! And I'm happy that I did some good new stuff."

Dallin, I'm SOOO proud of you! WAY TO GO!

Super Angie...day 9 without rick. MAGGIE MOOS!

This was the day I have been waiting for.

The day we would take Dallin's teacher to Maggie Moos after school.

I worked my butt off. I ate well all week leading up to this event. I exercised. I was ready to spend some serious calories eating some seriously yummy ice cream.

YUM!!! Dark chocolate mixed with Raspberry, with reeses peanutbutter cups mixed in.

Heavenly, simply heavenly.
