Super Angie...the family that hikes together...
We took a family hike on Buffalo Mountain in Silverthorne. It was a great little hike through log pine trees. We saw lots of other hikers--many with dogs. Of course Tan and the boys LOVED seeing so many dogs.
The kids all found walking sticks, which naturally weren't used quite the way walking sticks are supposed to be used. LOL Everyone had a snack which they enjoyed --chocolate bars! Yum.
Everyone but me took turns walking on fallen trees. I just watched as they took turns and sometimes got pretty crazy on these trees. Tan was a bit upset that she couldn't keep up with the big kids, but she did pretty good--she just walks on them like a balance beam. :)
We didn't make it up to the cabins (there are old pioneer cabins at the end of the trail) but the kids, especially Tanith, were getting tired, so we turned around and headed down. Rick and I took turns carrying Tan most of the way.
We did have one accident, when Tan was walking on a log and Dallin offered to catch her when she jumped off. The catch didn't go as planned and he got her elbow in his eye. OUCH!
The weather was perfect--about 60 degrees (maybe in the 50s?) and it just felt so nice to be out and about with the whole family.

The log-walking game was awesome - good for about an hour of amusement as we tested how high we could go on how skinny a log, or how far around we could go from log to log without touching the ground.
OUCH! What a good big brother! Did the elbow in the eye leave a shiner, or just temporary pain with no mark? I love the pictures of you guys. You look so happy. I envy you the hiking as a family! Our family hikes are severely hindered by Rachel's disability. All of her leg joints are slightly misaligned, so for her, hiking a mile is a strenuous exercise that feels more like 5 miles. If we do bigger hikes than two miles, she has to be carried and she weighs 115 pounds... My back can't handle her, but Michelle and Jared have grown pioneer muscles as a result of "monkey" backing their little sister over rought terrain. Monkey back is what Rachel calls it instead of piggy back!
I love hiking with my kids! I'd rather do that than about anything with them.....because I have them all to myself!
