Turns out I have a sway back--which means all the flexibility training I did last season WAS NOT good for me. All those back bends. All those spirals. All those laybacks. Mid July, my back just locked up completely. I had xrays, was put on bed rest and told not to skate for "awhile". I tried in August, and only lasted 5 minutes. So much pain.
So I have osteoarthritis, degeneration and bad compression. NOT FUN. I will never again skate at the level I was. :( Before this happened, I was doing flying camels and back camels. I was really progressing, but those things just added to my problems.
I'm still processing all of this. Right now, i'm pain free. I can ride my stationary bike 8 miles daily. I walk a mile or two. And I skated this past week for 30 minutes- pain free. But all I did was stroke. I don't know what my future holds- whether I'll be able to jump again. Its just a waiting game.
