Super Angie...Zion day 2....hikes and drives
We enjoyed a nice night in our cabin. We took advantage of the gas fireplace, and no TV, and just enjoyed being together as a family. After a lazy morning eating cereal in our cabin, we decided to take a drive to the east enterence of the park.
While driving, before reaching the tunnel, we pulled over to let some cars pass by. This is when Rick noticed a small waterfall. So we got everyone out, and the boys and Tanith climbed up with Rick to sit on a log and be silly. Then the boys took a short little hike with Rick, up higher onto the waterfall--climbing over large boulders. Dallin was ready to come down, but decided to go through the brush and dirt hillside, instead of the rocks. Rick told him, "Stop! Don't go that way. You'll cause erossion" Dallin stopped walking, but suddenly lost his balance and slid down the hillside on his butt. He got some scratches but mostly was just startled a bit. Afterwards, we all cheered and he came down the rest of the way through the rocks. WAY TO GO DALLIN! :)
We drove through the tunnel, with the boys yelling "GRAND OPENING" out the car windows each time we came to one of the tunnel windows. We drove all the way to the east gate, enjoying the hills, dry river beds and different beauties.
We stopped on our way back, enjoyed a blue PEEP, and then went for a few short hikes. One hike took up straight up the side of one of the hills by Checkerboard Mesa. It was fabulous! We just climbed and climbed and got all the way to the top of this rock. Even Tanith climbed it! Then we traversed down another hillside and made our way down to the car. It was a great hike.
