We were all anxious for Rick to arrive last night, but at 6pm, he called from Grand Junction to ask about road conditions. He had seen a sign saying Vail Pass was closed. Sure enough, all of I-70 was closed...from Golden near Denver, all the way to Vail! Thats almost 100 miles of freeway!
He stayed in Grand Junction, gassing up and eatting for almost 2 hours, but we finally decided it did not look like it was going to open anytime soon, so he headed back to Cedar Hills and left us stranded in the middle of Colorado.
Its a good thing he didn't try to wait it out in Vail--the freeway was closed for over 12 hours!
It snowed. It snowed some more. And guess what! ITS STILL SNOWING! 2 feet of snow in two days!
Today, we braved the snow and went to the Silverthorne Rec Center because their child care is open on Saturdays. I did a workout while Brennan and Tanith enjoyed KIDS KORNER. Dallin was able to hang out in the lobby. The front desk was so nice to him--they even turned the tv on for him! SO sweet!
After a shower and changing clothes at home, we headed out to Village Inn for Brunch. By this time, the freeway was open and you could tell that everyone was trying to leave town. We enjoyed our yummy pancakes and frenchtoast. We went to the toy store again and then headed to Breck. We parked in one of the free lots on the hill and walked main street. The kids each got a pair of sunglasses and lots of compliments from Annie at MARTY'S. I love that store! Anyway, Annie raved about how well behaved my kids were and that she appreciated how polite they were--opening the door for people, saying, please and thank you, and how I actually stayed with my kids instead of letting them take the lead. I am still beaming!
On the way back to the car, we stoped at MARY'S MOUNTAIN COOKIES and got some famous cookies. The kids all wanted M&M ones. Yum! We passed by many nice dogs, two horses (we'll have to ride the carriage next time!) and by the bronze Donkey statue. Tan fed her cookie to the donkey!
Now Brennan and Tanith are napping and when they wake, we will head BACK to the rec center to enjoy the pool there. Its still snowing....I LOVE IT!

PS...good news..my swim suit literally FALLS OFF OF ME! Its a size 12, and now I"m a size 6-8. Its a landsend tankini with swim short bottoms and a halter top (smurfin cute) but the bottoms fall off! I hope they hold up for tonight's trip to the rec center. Yikes. Maybe I should drop into one of the outlet stores and get a new suit. hmmm

What a bummer Rick was not able to make it. But sounds like you still made it an enjoyable day. Way to go. At least you love the snow!
Looks like another reason to celebrate: Swimsuit falling off of you that is, not the fact that poor Rick got stranded!
good on you for losing your swim suit (well not really) Sounded like a good day for at least 4 of you. Sorry Rick.... I know how you love that drive.
I am trying to absorb your enthusiasm for the April snow! Glad you are having a good time in Colorado! Get home safe!
(I'm dreaming of the day my swimsuit no longer fits! Way to go skinny girl!)
