Super Angie...go sounders

Last night, Jeff took the boys to the Sounders Game. They have been talking NON STOP ever since.

Super Angie...lake time

Yesterday, on a beautiful Sunny Pacific Northwest afternoon, my friend Brad took us to a beach in Renton. We ate at Ivars and Kid Valley, walked on the dock and played at the playground. The weather was simply perfect. I LOVED smelling the lake and just being by the water. Good times! Thanks Brad!

Super Angie...pink!

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."

Super Angie...Mother's Day Treats

'

My children were delightful today. They each gave me paintings/drawings they had made, as well as a cookie bouquet they made at church. I'm so blessed to be their mom.

Super Angie...doubts need to flee

Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” -John Wooden.

One moment, I'm full of confidence. I am so excited about my goals and aspirations. But then the next moment, I'm full of self doubt.

When I'm running on the treadmill, I look at myself in the mirror. I see how far I've come and how different my body looks. I'm happy and pleased, but then suddenly the doubts come into my mind. Thoughts like: you are such a failure that those pants that fit in January no longer fit! and There is NO WAY you will ever lose that belly!

Good Angie.
Bad Angie.
Super Angie.

Another thought: you will never be a beautiful skater, so why bother?

Super Angie...Breck

After spending the afternoon at the pool (and getting sunburned!), we went to Breck for a Mother's Day dinner at Kenosha steak house. Then we just enjoyed the incredible weather and walked around town.

Super Angie...mother's day

I lost my mom in Feb. The wounds are still amazingly fresh and with Rick being gone right now, my emotions are over flowing. Yesterday I had a melt down. Luckily I had a good friend who texted and sent many many emails throughout the day, lifting me out of my depression. Sometimes one little thing can trigger an explosion--like accidentally taking the wrong exit! I feltl very lost--physically and emotionally. I couldn't grasp life. I couldn't function. I felt like everything was spinning out of control.

I wanted to skate. With all the other crap, emotions, and events going on in my life, I wanted to return to the constant- skating. The one thing that doesn't dessert me. The ice, where I feel so calm and secure and happy. And yet, with my rink closed for the next few weeks, I've been lost without it.

Yesterday after dropping the kids off at school, I drove down to Arvada. My plan was to let Tan enjoy the childcare there (which she did!) and for me to get in some practice. With a show and several comps coming up, I need to practice. But the boots just hurt. The sharpening was fantastic, but the boots just killed. I could feel them cutting into my heel. Not pleasant. I was so frustrated. My mom is dead. My husband is far away on a mountain. Why can't my boots just freaking work!!!! I had had it. I lost control. Just sinking further and further into the black hole of depression.

My friend Brad was a gem and was full of great advice. Texts and emails slowly helped me snap out of it. There was only one thing to do...I needed to buy new boots. With the help of a neighbor who agreed to pick up the boys from school, I picked up Tanith and drove to Colorado Springs. (see below post about my new boots)

Brad helped me remember that skating is supposed to be FUN. I clearly wasn't having fun because of the boot problems, but I was also putting added stress onto myself to be perfect on the ice. The upcoming season and training for that was on my mind. I had forgotten to think about the fun and instead had gotten carried away with the winning...

So....with my rink closed, and ice time limited, I'm going to start focusing on the FUN.

Things I LOVE about skating:
being expressive on the ice
going fast
flying
jumping
dancing
rocking out
being pretty
mastering something
working hard
getting out of breath
thinking about my skating heros.

Gonna get back to that on Monday when I skate in my new boots.

Super Angie...new boots!

Well FINALLY my boot woes are over. Tired of being sized wrong twice for Reidell 1300s, and having so many issues, I went to Jack at the World Arena in Colorado Springs yesterday. I was prepared to drop big bucks for some custom skates, but Lady Luck was on MY SIDE! Jack measured every part of my foot. We talked about some problem areas (because of my flat feet, I am wider in certain areas and narrow in others--that aren't normal). It was determined that my foot is just made for Riedell boots.

JUST BY CHANCE he had a pair of slightly used boots on the shelf. Riedell 875 TS. A local Junior level skater had used them for less then 2 weeks when she determined she needed something different. AND JUST BY CHANCE, these were the exact size and measurements I needed. YEA!

Jack's customer service is beyond anything I've experienced. He took a full hour, heating, molding and punching out any problem area. Over and over until it not only felt perfect, but looked perfect! I've never seen punching done so well. There were no marks. He really is a craftsman and really loves what he does. Its no wonder people around the world ship him their skates. He mounted my skates, and then had me go out and skate. It was the end of a session on the Olympic ice, and I had the whole ice to myself. Oh my gosh! It was thrilling! To skate on such historic ice--where our current world champion trains! He had me do some one foot glides and INSTANTLY they were text book perfect. I didn't struggle at all, like I had in the past. The boots and mounting worked hand in hand. The boot hugged my foot perfectly, it was SOOO nice! Then after determining the one foot glides looked and felt amazing, he had me do crossovers and three turns. Wow...the sharpening was AMAZING! I have never felt this way. I am sold. I will now only have Jack sharpen them. :)

He asked me to do a spin...and an amazing thing happened. PERFECTLY CENTERED! He even commented on how nice it was. Yea!!!!!!!! Then he said, "show me something else", so with the rink mine, I did a really nice hydroblade up into a Chinese Spiral. The edge held so well that I didn't even struggle to stand up into the spiral. Effortless. I was amazed and he was very happy. He gave me lots of compliments on my skating. :)

He did the the final mounting and waxed them. I got an amazing deal on these boots. I'm soooo excited!

(and of course I had to add a little bling to the boot!)

Super Angie...56 degrees and sunny!

The sun was out. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was 56 degrees. TIME TO LAY BY THE POOL!

There were a bunch of 20 somethings hanging out, having a BBQ and party. It was a fun atmosphere. And being at 9300 ft, the sun is so much more intense then at lower altitudes, so even though it was only in the 50s, it was so perfect!
