Tristan and Brennan--great partners
Dallin--he looks so cool in those sunglasses!
Brennan on the 5.7
Brennan, almost to the top, with Rick up there to cheer him on!
Our hike was nice...we enjoyed seeing butterflies, dragonflies and looking for Raccons, which another hiker had told us about. We didn't see them, but it was still a nice hike.
Once we got up, we found out that Tristan had DECKED! OH MY GOSH! He was leading a 5.10a (HOLY CRAP! On his 7th day climbing!). He was trying to clip into the second clip, when he fell and he hit the ground. Luckily, he walked away from it with only a scrape on his leg. WHOA! He learned all his rescue stuff and did some rapping while we were there. Looked good. Rick and I are both mad (in a friendly way) that he is progressing so fast. DANG LUCKY KID! Ah, to be 6"2', 18, no body fat and have no fear....sigh.
We brought Brennan's climbing stuff up (Dallin tore his skin off at the gym yesterday, so he has to rest his hand--much to his disapointment), so Tristan agreed to belay him on a 5.7. At first, he did great but then he started freaking out and getting distracted by looking at people down in the cliff parking lot. I kept telling him he would get some salt water taffy (Huckleberry flavor from Montana--YUM!) if he finished the route. He was half motivated, but wouldn't stop freaking out. I was tried of it, so we brought him down. No candy and disapointed, he agreed to climb again.
Then Tristan stepped into the role of coach and actually got him up the 45 foot route! WAY TO GO TRISTAN AND BRENNAN! I am so impressed. Tristan should go be a camp counselor or something. He really had a calming effect on Brennan. It was great.
Meanwhile during all this, Dallin cheered Brennan on, I took pictures (Rick took pictures too, from up on top) and Tanith slid down the dirt hill and got so dirty. (We took her in the shower after we got home, and the mud just rolled off her! GROSS!) Oh yeah...she also threw up while we were up there. Every time we take her up to Red Rock, she throws up. Loads of fun!
What a fun family activity. We are really getting to know Tristan better and enjoying having him here.
